The West Bengal Government has introduced the Kanyaratna Education Grant Scheme as the new name for its flagship girl-child welfare programme, "Kanyashree Prakalpa Scheme". With this change, the financial support earlier provided under Kanyashree will be continued under the Kanyaratna framework.

Introduction

• Kanyashree Prakalpa Scheme is the flagship scheme of the Government of West Bengal for the Girls of the State.
• It is a Conditional Cash Transfer (CTT) Scheme.
• It was launched on 1st of October 2013.
• The nodal department of this scheme is the Women and Child Development and Social Welfare Department of the Government of West Bengal.
• The main objective behind starting this scheme is to empower girls financially and help them to complete their education.
• Kanyashree Prakalpa Scheme also aims to encourage girls of West Bengal to pursue higher education.
• Not only will this increase the literacy rate of girls, but it will also reduce the chances of early marriage for girls in West Bengal.
• This Scheme is also called by other name in state such as "West Bengal Kanyashree Prakalpa Yojana".
• The Kanyashree Prakalpa scheme targets the girls who are in the age group of 13 years to 19 years.
• Under the Kanyashree Prakalpa Scheme, the West Bengal Government provides financial assistance to girls so that they can complete their education.
• Rs 1,000/- will be provided every year to girl students who are in the age group of 13 years to 18 years under Kanyashree Prakalpa Scheme.
• Apart from that, One Time Grant of Rs. 25,000/- will also provided to girl students after they passed class 12th and are pursuing further studies.
• Girls above 19 years of age are not eligible to take advantage of this scheme.
• They have to claim the one time financial assistance of Rs. 25,000/- before attaining the age of 19 years.
• Those girls are not eligible to avail the benefit of Kanyashree Prakalpa Scheme whose annual family income is more than Rs. 1,20,000/-.
• The only way to apply for Kanyashree Prakalpa Scheme is through Offline Application Form.
• Offline Application Form of Kanyashree Prakalpa Scheme is available in the Educational Institution in which girl is studying.

Benefits of Scheme

• The following financial assistance will be provided to eligible Girls under Kanyashree Prakalpa Scheme of Government of West Bengal :-
  • Rs. 1,000/- per year to Girl Students of 13 years to 18 years of Age.
  • One Time Grant of Rs. 25,000/- to Girl Students of 18 years to 19 years of age who have passed lass 12th or its equivalent examination.

Eligibility Criteria

• The Girl should be a resident of West Bengal.
• The age of the Girl should be between 13 years to 19 years.
• The Girl should be in class 8th or above. (Waived off if Girl has Disability).
• The Girl must be studying in any of the following Educational Institutions :-
  • In Formal School
  • Madrassah or Equivalent Open School.
  • College or Open University.
  • In Vocational Training Center, Technical Training Center, Industrial Training Center or Sports Training Center.
• The Girl should be Unmarried.
• The Family Income of Girl should not be more than Rs.1,20,000/- per year.
• Family Income Criteria is waived off in the following cases :-
  • If the Disability of a Girl is 40% or more.
  • Both the parents of the Girl are no more.
  • The Girl is living in a Government Juvenile Home.

• The following documents is required to be attached at the time of applying for financial assistance under West Bengal Government's Kanyashree Prakalpa Scheme :-
  • Passport Size Photograph.
  • Birth Certificate.
  • Domicile of West Bengal.
  • Aadhar Card.
  • Bank Account Details.
  • Declaration that Girl is Unmarried.
  • Certificate of Enrolment from Educational Institution.
  • Disability Certificate. (If Applicable)
  • Self Declared Income Certificate.

How to Apply

• The only way to apply for Kanyashree Prakalpa is through the Application Form.
• Kanyashree Prakalpa Application Form will be available at the institions where girl is studying.
• Fill all the necessary personal details mentioned in the Application Form.
• Attach the below mentioned documents with the Kanyashree Prakalpa Scheme Application Form as applicable :-
  • Passport Size Photograph.
  • Birth Certificate.
  • Domicile of West Bengal.
  • Aadhar Card.
  • Bank Account Details.
  • Declaration that Girl is Unmarried.
  • Certificate of Enrolment from Educational Institution.
  • Disability Certificate. (If Applicable).
  • Self Declared Income Certificate.
• The Applications received will be thoroughly scrutinized by the competent authority.
• If the Application is accepted, the amount of financial assistance will be directly transferred to the Girl's Bank Account.

Features of the Scheme

• The Girl can apply for the Annual Scholarship when she is 13 years old.
• Eligible Girls can apply for One Time Grant anytime between the age of 18 to 19 years.
• Educational Institutions is responsible for the renewal of Applications every year.
• District Magistrate of the District is the Sanctioning Officer of Kanyashree Prakalpa Scheme.
• Girl's can track their application status through their Application Form ID or Kanyashree ID on Kanyashree Portal.
