Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

The Gujarat Government has started the Uniform Assistance Scheme (ગણવેશ સહાય યોજના) for trainees studying in government Industrial Training Institutes of the state. Under this scheme, an eligible ITI trainee receives ₹2,000 every year for purchasing two pairs of uniforms. The Labour, Skill Development and Employment Department of the Gujarat Government implements the scheme, and the amount reaches the trainee through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

The state government launched the Gujarat Uniform Assistance Scheme for ITI Trainees on 8 September 2026 from Kubernagar ITI, Ahmedabad. Cabinet Minister Shri Kunvarji Bavaliya and Minister of State Shri Kantilal Amrutiya handed over the benefit to trainees at the launch programme, in the presence of MLA Smt. Payal Kukrani. The government has extended the scheme to 289 government ITIs across Gujarat, and about 1.5 lakh trainees are expected to benefit from it.

The Gujarat Government has provisioned ₹30 crore for the scheme in the 2026-27 budget. Because the assistance moves through DBT, the money reaches the trainee's bank account directly, without any intermediate agency handling the payment.

The objective behind the Uniform Assistance Scheme goes beyond financial support. According to the state government, a common uniform brings uniformity among trainees and promotes discipline, professionalism and confidence. The government has connected this effort with its wider aim of developing the personality and professional identity of vocational trainees, so that the skilled youth of Gujarat match the requirements of industry in India and abroad.

On the same platform, the state government also highlighted the other support available to ITI trainees: assistance for female trainees under the Namo Kaushalya Lakshmi Scheme, travel assistance for Divyang trainees, and cash prizes under the Vishwakarma Kaushalya Spardha. Together, these initiatives reduce the cost of vocational training for students and their families. In a similar manner, the Gujarat Government also runs Uniform Assistance schemes for Class 1 to 8 students to support their education.

Scheme Benefits

The Uniform Assistance Scheme gives a direct financial benefit to ITI trainees and also delivers practical advantages inside the institute. The following points explain what a trainee actually gains under the Uniform Assistance Scheme.

Eligibility Requirements

The state government has announced the following eligibility criteria for the Uniform Assistance Scheme:

• The trainee must study in a government Industrial Training Institute of Gujarat.
• The scheme covers the 289 government ITIs functioning across the districts of the state.
• Since the department pays the amount through DBT, the beneficiary needs a working bank account for the transfer.

Required Documents

The department has not yet published the official document checklist for the Uniform Assistance Scheme. Trainees should submit only the documents that their own government ITI demands at the time of verification.

Steps to Apply

The Gujarat Government has started the distribution of the assistance from 8 September 2026, but the department has not yet published the detailed application and sanction procedure, including whether a trainee must submit a separate application form or whether the institute prepares the beneficiary list from admission records. Until the department publishes the procedure, a trainee should:

• Contact the office of the government ITI where he or she studies and ask about the process notified for that institute.
• Follow the notice board and official circulars issued by the institute.
• Keep the admission record, Aadhaar, and bank account details ready, as DBT schemes normally require an active bank account of the beneficiary.
• Check the official portals of the Directorate of Employment and Training for the government resolution when it appears.
