Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

The Maternity Benefit / Delivery Assistance Scheme is a welfare program introduced by the Karnataka Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board under the Department of Labour, Government of Karnataka, to provide financial support to registered women construction workers during childbirth. Through this scheme, registered women construction workers receive financial assistance of ₹50,000 per delivery, whether for a male or female child, to help cover medical and related expenses.

The scheme ensures support at a critical stage, enabling beneficiaries to manage costs associated with pregnancy and delivery. To be eligible for the benefits, a woman must be registered with the Karnataka Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board and should be pregnant. Additionally, the assistance is restricted to the first two deliveries only, and it can be availed only twice. The second claim must be supported by an affidavit stating that it is for the second delivery, and the benefit will not be provided if the applicant already has two living children.

The applicant is also required to submit proof of delivery, such as a birth certificate issued by the Registrar of Births and Deaths or a delivery certificate from a government or private hospital in Karnataka duly signed by the concerned doctor. In conclusion, the scheme contributes to the welfare of women in the unorganised construction sector by improving maternal health and offering financial stability during childbirth.

The Welfare Board also provides additional family-oriented assistance through schemes such as the Karnataka Thayi Magu Sahaya Hastha Scheme for maternity support and the Karnataka Marriage Assistance Scheme for marriage-related financial aid to registered construction workers. Beneficiaries may explore these welfare initiatives to receive broader financial and social security benefits offered by the Board.

Yes. A grace period of 1 year is allowed after expiry. Since 8 months is within that window, renew your registration quickly and then apply.

After the 1-year grace period, registration becomes invalid. You will need to re-register from scratch and fulfil the 90-day work requirement again.

It counts as one delivery. The scheme counts deliveries, not the number of children born. You would still be eligible to claim for a second delivery.
