Himachal Pradesh Beti Hai Anmol Yojana stands as one of the state’s most meaningful efforts to support the girl child. Launched on 5 July 2010, this welfare scheme was created especially for daughters belonging to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families. At a time when many households still hesitated to invest equally in a girl’s future, the Himachal government stepped in with practical financial help and educational support.

It aimed to encourage families to welcome and educate their daughters, reduce the incidence of early marriage, improve school enrolment and retention of girls, and gradually shift community attitudes that often undervalued the girl child. By limiting benefits to a maximum of two daughters per BPL family, the government sought to reach as many needy households as possible while keeping the programme manageable and targeted. Over the years, the birth grant was revised upward, reflecting the state's continuing commitment to the cause.

Implementation rests with the Department of Women and Child Development (earlier linked with Social Justice and Empowerment). The scheme works through Anganwadi centres, Child Development Project Officers, and the state's digital platforms such as the e-District portal. Families receive a one-time deposit in the girl's name at birth, followed by annual scholarships that help cover the cost of books, uniforms, and related educational needs from Class 1 through higher studies. These provisions were intended not merely as relief but as a long-term investment in the girl's future.

In 2026, the Himachal Pradesh government further strengthened the programme. For girls born on or after 1 April 2026, the scheme has been reoriented and is being implemented as Indira Gandhi Sukh Suraksha Yojana. The enhanced version raises the birth deposit to ₹25,000 (placed with an insurance company) and adds a life-insurance cover of ₹2 lakh each for both parents. Official statements describe this as making the original Beti Hai Anmol vision more effective and secure. Girls born earlier continue under the previous provisions, ensuring continuity for existing beneficiaries.

Taken together, Beti Hai Anmol Yojana and its strengthened form represent more than a financial package. They form part of Himachal Pradesh's broader effort to protect the girl child, improve the child sex ratio, and give daughters from poorer homes a stronger foundation for education and independent adulthood. Scheme Benefits

The support under Beti Hai Anmol Yojana comes in two parts - a one-time deposit at birth and a running scholarship through the school years.

• One-time deposit of ₹21,000 in the girl’s name (bank or post office), available when she turns 18.
• Annual scholarships to support education:
  • Classes 1 to 3 – ₹450 per year
  • Class 4 – ₹750 per year
  • Class 5 – ₹900 per year
  • Classes 6 to 7 – ₹1,050 per year
  • Class 8 – ₹1,200 per year
  • Classes 9 to 10 – ₹1,500 per year
  • Classes 11 to 12 – ₹2,250 per year
  • Graduation (BA, BCom, BSc etc.) and professional courses (BE, BTech, MBBS, LLB, BEd etc.) – ₹5,000 per year

Eligibility Requirements

To avail benefits under Himachal Pradesh Beti Hai Anmol Yojana or the updated Indira Gandhi Sukh Suraksha Yojana, the following conditions apply:

• The family must be a permanent resident (bona fide Himachali) of Himachal Pradesh.
• The family must belong to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category.
• Only the first two girl children in the family are eligible.
• For this scheme: girl child born on or after 5 July 2010.
• For the enhanced version (Indira Gandhi Sukh Suraksha Yojana): girl child born on or after 1 April 2026.
• The beneficiary girl should not get married before completing 18 years of age.

Steps to Apply

The application for the Beti Hai Anmol Yojana can be filled out through both an online and offline process. You can simply follow the steps below.

Online Process

• First, visit the official Himseva Portal.
• On the portal, go to the Citizen Corner section and click on Citizen Login.
• If you are a new user, click "New User? Sign Up for Citizen Login" to begin the citizen registration process.
• Select the applicable identity/registration option and provide the required details. If you choose Aadhaar-based registration, complete the verification using the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
• After successful verification, complete the Citizen Registration Form by entering all the required information and submit it to create your citizen account.
• Once registration is complete, log in through Citizen Login using your registered credentials.
• After logging in, click on Apply for New Services.
• From the list of departments, select the Women and Child Welfare Department and click on Beti Hai Anmol Yojana.
• Read the scheme details and instructions displayed on the screen, then click on New Application to proceed.
• Fill in the application form with the required details, including Girl Child Details, Father/Guardian Details, Permanent Address Details, and Bank/Post Office Details.
• Upload all the required documents in the prescribed format and make sure that the information provided is accurate.
• Review the complete application carefully and submit it online.
• After submission, you can check your application status and approval by logging in to the portal and selecting Existing Applications.

Offline Process

• Download the official application form from the portal or collect a free copy from the nearest Anganwadi Centre, Lok Mitra Kendra, or CDPO office.
• Fill the form carefully with the girl child's details, parents'/guardian's information, address, and bank/post-office account details.
• Attach self-attested photocopies of the required documents:
• Submit the completed form and documents at the nearest Anganwadi Centre, Lok Mitra Kendra, or CDPO office of your block.
• The concerned officer will verify the application and forward it for approval.
