Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

The Pratibha Kiran Scholarship Scheme is a state-run financial assistance programme of the Higher Education Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh. It is meant for girl students from poor urban households who want to continue studying after school. The scheme has been running since 2008 with a simple objective: a girl who clears Class 12 with good marks should not be forced to give up college education just because her family cannot afford it.

Pratibha Kiran Scholarship Scheme specifically targets girls from Below Poverty Line (BPL) families residing in the urban areas of Madhya Pradesh. It gives them a monthly stipend for as long as they remain enrolled in a graduation course. For girls in rural parts of the state, the government already runs a parallel scholarship, the Gaon Ki Beti Yojana. Together, the two schemes ensure that meritorious girl students get continued financial support for higher education, regardless of whether they live in a city or a village.

Under Madhya Pradesh Pratibha Kiran Yojana, an eligible girl student receives ₹500 every month for 10 months of the academic year. This works out to ₹5,000 per year. The amount is credited directly to the student's bank account once her application is verified and approved. The support continues year after year through her graduation course, as long as she keeps meeting the eligibility conditions and stays regularly enrolled. Importantly, this scholarship can be availed alongside other central or state scholarships the student may be eligible for, so it does not replace or block other financial assistance she may already be receiving.

To qualify for the Pratibha Kiran Yojana, a candidate must be a permanent resident of Madhya Pradesh living in an urban area, and belong to a family certified as living below the poverty line. She must have passed Class 12 with at least 60% marks from a school in that urban area, and currently be studying in a graduation course at a government or non-government (recognised) college or university in the state. Applications are submitted every year through the state's online scholarship portal. Every application is subject to verification and approval by the principal of the college where the student is enrolled, after which the sanctioned amount is released through direct bank transfer.

The Higher Education Department has moved the Pratibha Kiran Yojana application process onto an upgraded system referred to as Scholarship Portal 2.0. For the 2025-26 academic session, the department has specifically urged eligible girl students who missed applying earlier to come forward and apply. It has opened a dedicated application window from 5 August to 15 August 2026 for this purpose. Girls who believe they qualify for MP Pratibha Kiran Yojana but have not yet applied for the current session should use this window rather than waiting for the next academic cycle. The department has invited both fresh applications and renewal applications within this window, so existing beneficiaries who need to renew for 2025-26 and new eligible applicants can both apply on Scholarship Portal 2.0 during this period.

Steps to Apply

Eligible girl students can apply for the Pratibha Kiran Yojana for the academic session 2025-26 through the Madhya Pradesh Scholarship Portal 2.0.

• New applicants should complete the registration process for the Pratibha Kiran Yojana.
• Students who have previously received the scholarship should complete the applicable renewal registration.

• Submit and lock the application within the prescribed application period.
• The concerned college/institution will verify the application and supporting documents.

Application Deadline: For the academic session 2025-26, both new and renewal applicants must complete and lock their Pratibha Kiran Yojana applications between 5 August 2026 and 15 August 2026.

The portal notice states that applications cannot be locked after the prescribed final date. Students should therefore complete the application and locking process before 15 August 2026.
