Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

Mukhyamantri Sahbhagita Yojana, also known as the Mukhyamantri Nirashrit/Besahara Gauvansh Sahbhagita Yojana, is a Government of Uttar Pradesh initiative aimed at encouraging public participation in the protection, care, and maintenance of destitute and abandoned cattle. The scheme is implemented through the Animal Husbandry Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh. Under the scheme, willing cattle rearers are provided cattle from cow shelters so that they can keep the animals at their own premises and take responsibility for their proper care and maintenance.

The objective of the Uttar Pradesh Mukhyamantri Sahbhagita Yojana is to promote proper care and protection of destitute and abandoned cattle. Under the scheme, willing individuals can take cattle from cow shelters and take responsibility for their rearing and maintenance. The government provides financial assistance of ₹50 per head of cattle per day towards the maintenance and upkeep of such cattle. The assistance is transferred directly to the beneficiary's bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Thus, beneficiaries who take responsibility for the care of cattle receive financial support from the government towards their maintenance.

Under the scheme, a beneficiary can receive a maximum of 4 cattle. At the current assistance rate, the amount works out to approximately ₹1,500 per head of cattle for 30 days and approximately ₹6,000 for four cattle. Since the government has fixed the assistance rate at ₹50 per head per day, these amounts are calculated on the basis of 30 days. The purpose of this assistance is to provide financial support towards the maintenance and upkeep of the cattle kept by the beneficiary under the scheme.

The Uttar Pradesh Mukhyamantri Sahbhagita Yojana is also linked with the Poshan Mission. Under this arrangement, selected malnourished families under the Poshan Mission are provided with milch cattle. This helps improve the availability of milk for these families while also providing financial support for cattle maintenance. The initiative therefore supports both the nutritional needs of selected families and the protection of destitute cattle.

Similarly, the Animal Husbandry Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh, also operates the Uttar Pradesh Kamdhenu Dairy Scheme and the Uttar Pradesh Gopalak Yojana. The Kamdhenu Dairy Scheme provides subsidy and loan support for setting up dairy units, while the Gopalak Yojana provides bank loan assistance of up to ₹9 lakh for starting a dairy farming business.
