Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

The Bihar Mukhyamantri Pichhda Varg Evam Atyant Pichhda Varg Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme is a scholarship scheme launched by the Government of Bihar. Under this scheme, eligible students belonging to the Backward Class (BC) and Extremely Backward Class (EBC) who are studying in Classes 1 to 10 in government schools and government-recognized schools in Bihar are provided an annual scholarship ranging from ₹1,200 to ₹6,000. The scholarship amount is transferred directly to the beneficiary's bank account through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.

The objective of this scheme is to help students from economically weaker families continue their education and to increase the participation of Backward Class and Extremely Backward Class children in school education. Eligible students residing in hostels are also provided a separate scholarship amount as prescribed under the scheme.

Under this scheme, there is no income limit for students belonging to the Extremely Backward Class (EBC). However, for Backward Class (BC) boys, the annual income of the parents or guardian from all sources should not exceed ₹3,00,000. There is no income limit for Backward Class (BC) girls. Only students studying in government schools or government-recognized and establishment-approved schools in Bihar are eligible to receive the benefits of this scheme.

A student is eligible to receive the scholarship only once for a particular class. If a student fails in a class and is admitted again to the same class, the scholarship will not be granted again for that class. In addition, students receiving benefits under this scheme cannot avail the benefits of any other Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme simultaneously.

The selection and verification of eligible students are carried out by the Education Department. After successful verification, the scholarship amount is transferred directly to the students' bank accounts through the DBT system.

Scholarship Amount

Current Scholarship Amount (Effective from 1 April 2025)

Note: The scholarship amounts were revised from 1 April 2025. They were increased from ₹600, ₹1,200, ₹1,800, and ₹3,000 to ₹1,200, ₹2,400, ₹3,600, and ₹6,000, respectively.

Eligibility Requirements

• To avail the benefits of the Bihar Mukhyamantri Pichhda Varg Evam Atyant Pichhda Varg Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme, the applicant must fulfill the following eligibility conditions:
• The applicant must be a permanent resident of Bihar.
• The applicant must be studying in Class 1 to Class 10.
• The applicant must belong to one of the following categories:
  • Backward Class (BC)
  • Backward Class (EBC)
• The applicant must be studying in a government school or a government-recognized and establishment-approved school in Bihar.
• There is no income limit for students belonging to the Extremely Backward Class (EBC).
• For students belonging to the Backward Class (BC), only boys are required to have a parent or guardian whose annual income from all sources is ₹3,00,000 or less.
• There is no income limit for Backward Class (BC) girl students.
• A student will receive the scholarship only once for a particular class.
• If a student fails in a class and is admitted again to the same class, the scholarship will not be granted again for that class.
• A student receiving benefits under this scheme will not be eligible to receive benefits under any other Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme.

• Permanent Residence Certificate of Bihar.
• Aadhaar Card.
• Caste Certificate.
• Income Certificate (where applicable).
• Bank account details.
• Copy of the bank passbook.
• School admission or bonafide certificate.
• Marksheet of the previous class (if required).
• Passport-size photograph.
• Mobile number.
• Email ID (if available).

Note: Applications are submitted through the school. The final list of required documents will be decided by the concerned school or the Education Department.

Steps to Apply

Students are not required to apply online on their own for this scheme. The entire application process is carried out through the school.

• Step 1: Eligible students should contact their school and obtain information regarding the scholarship application process.
• Step 2: The school will ask eligible students belonging to the Backward Class and Extremely Backward Class to fill out the scholarship application form.
• Step 3: The student should carefully fill in all the required details in the application form and attach all the requested documents.
• Step 4: After receiving all the documents, the school will verify the application.
• Step 5: The school will forward the applications of eligible students to the Education Department.
• Step 6: The Education Department will verify the application forms and supporting documents.
• Step 7: After successful verification, eligible students will be selected.
• Step 8: The scholarship amount will be transferred directly to the selected students' bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.

Selection Process

The beneficiaries under the scheme are selected through the following process:

• The school accepts applications from eligible students.
• The applications and supporting documents are forwarded to the Education Department.
• The Education Department verifies the eligibility of the applicants.
• After successful verification, a list of eligible students is prepared.
• The scholarship amount is transferred directly to the selected students' bank accounts through the DBT system.

Important Conditions

• The scholarship is paid as a lump sum once every year.
• A scholarship is granted only once for a particular class.
• If a student violates the conditions of the scholarship or breaches discipline, the scholarship may be withheld or cancelled.
• A beneficiary of this scheme is not eligible to receive benefits under any other Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme.
• The scholarship amount will be released only to eligible and verified students.
• The scholarship amount will be transferred directly to the beneficiary's bank account through the Direct Benefit
• Transfer (DBT) system.
