Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

The Chhattisgarh Atal Utkrisht Shiksha Yojana is a flagship welfare initiative of the Labour Department, Government of Chhattisgarh, implemented through the Chhattisgarh Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board (CGBOCW Board). Launched under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, the scheme provides free, high-quality residential education to meritorious children of registered construction workers from Class 6 to Class 12.

Selected students are admitted to empanelled private residential schools (CBSE, ICSE or Chhattisgarh Board) where the entire cost of education is fully borne by the Board. This covers tuition and admission fees, hostel accommodation, nutritious meals, school uniforms, textbooks, stationery, and other approved educational expenses. By removing the financial burden, the scheme ensures that children from labour families get equal access to quality education and a stronger foundation for higher studies and career opportunities.

The scheme is available exclusively to the first two children of registered construction workers who are active members of the CGBOCW Board (with a minimum of one year of registration). Admission is granted on a merit basis for entry into Class 6, based on Class 5 performance, followed by document verification and counselling. Recognising growing demand, the Government has increased the annual intake to 200 students for the 2026-27 academic year, enabling more deserving children to benefit from quality residential education across empanelled schools in the state.

Under Atal Utkrisht Shiksha Yojana, online applications can be submitted through the official Shramev Jayate Portal, the Shramev Jayate Mobile App, Labour Department offices, Labour Resource Centres and Lok Seva Kendras (Common Service Centres).

Through this initiative, the Chhattisgarh government aims to promote real social mobility by giving children of construction workers access to the same quality of education that was earlier limited to more privileged families. By studying in good residential schools, these students gain not only better academic foundations but also the confidence, exposure, and life skills needed to pursue higher education and competitive careers.
