The scholarship programme distributes 2,000 scholarships annually across India, with a well-structured category-wise allocation that ensures equitable representation. Out of the total 2,000 scholarships, 1,000 seats are reserved for SC/ST category students, 500 seats for OBC category students, and 500 seats for the Economically Weaker Sections of the General category. What makes this scheme particularly progressive is its gender-sensitive approach, where 50% of the total scholarships in each category are reserved exclusively for girl students, promoting women's participation in technical and professional education. Each selected student receives financial assistance of Rs 48,000 per annum, which translates to ₹4,000 per month, directly credited to their bank accounts.

The scheme covers first-year students pursuing four specific professional courses: Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Technology in any branch recognised by AICTE, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery recognised by Medical Council of India, Master of Business Administration in any specialisation recognised by AICTE or UGC, and Master of Science in Geology or Geophysics from recognised universities. The scholarship continues throughout the course duration - four years for Engineering and MBBS programmes, and two years for MBA and M.Sc. programmes - provided students maintain the required academic performance of 60% marks or 6.0 CGPA and progress to the next academic year. Applications are invited annually through the official portal www.ongcscholar.org, and the entire selection process follows transparent merit-based criteria, ensuring that only deserving candidates benefit from this initiative.

For the 2026 cycle, applications for the ONGC Scholarship are scheduled to begin from 1 April 2026 and will remain open until 15 May 2026. The entire selection process follows a transparent, merit-based system ensuring that only the most deserving students receive the benefits of this prestigious scholarship.

Scheme Benefits

Eligible Courses

• Engineering (4 years): All branches, including Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, Chemical, Petroleum, and others approved by AICTE
• MBBS (4 years): Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, recognised by the Medical Council of India
• MBA (2 years): Any specialisation, including Finance, Marketing, HR, Operations, recognised by AICTE/UGC
• M.Sc. Geology/Geophysics (2 years): Applied Geology, Applied Geophysics recognised by UGC or State/Central Government

Eligibility Requirements

• Applicant must be a permanent citizen of India
• Must belong to the SC/ST/OBC/EWS-General category with a valid caste certificate
• Age should be less than 30 years as of 1 August 2025.
• Must be enrolled in the first year of Engineering/MBBS/MBA/M.Sc. in Geology or Geophysics
• Course must be full-time and recognised by AICTE/MCI/UGC/State or Central University
• Minimum 60% marks in Class 12th for UG courses (Engineering/MBBS)
• Minimum 60% marks or 6.0 CGPA (out of 10) in graduation for PG courses (MBA/M.Sc.)
• Annual family income below ₹4.5 lakh for the SC/ST category
• Annual family income below ₹2 lakh for OBC and EWS-General category
• Students should not be receiving any other scholarship or financial assistance
• Must have a standard Savings Bank Account (Minor accounts not acceptable)

Note: Preference given to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families in case of equal academic merit.

Required Documents

• Passport-size photograph (recent colored)
• Caste certificate (SC/ST/OBC/EWS) issued by the competent authority in Hindi or English
• Date of birth proof (Birth certificate/Class 10th marksheet)
• Class 12th marksheet for UG courses
• Graduation marksheet and degree for PG courses
• Current year admission proof and bona fide certificate
• Fee receipt for the current academic year
• Annual family income certificate (not older than 6 months) in Hindi or English
• Bank account passbook copy (first page with account details)
• ECS form attested by the bank with the IFSC code and account number
• Aadhar card copy of the student
• PAN card copy (or provide tentative date of submission if unavailable)
• Domicile certificate
• Undertaking (signed statement confirming accuracy of information)

Steps to Apply

• Visit the official ONGC Foundation Scholarship portal at www.ongcscholar.org
• Click on the "Apply for Scholarship" option from the homepage
• Select appropriate scholarship category (SC/ST, OBC, or General-EWS).
• To proceed, all must register on the National Scholarship Portal and get an OTR (One Time Registration) number.
• Enter OTR number and Aadhaar Number.
• Read the official notification and guidelines carefully
• Click on the "Apply" button and tick the declaration checkbox
• Fill the registration form with basic details (name, gender, category, DOB, mobile, email, father's name, family income)
• Enter complete address details and click next
• Provide educational qualification details (institution name, course, marks)
• Enter bank account details (account number, IFSC code, bank name, branch)
• Upload all required documents in the prescribed format (JPG/PDF)
• Preview the filled application form and verify all details
• Submit the online application and note down the acknowledgement number
• Download and print the system-generated application form
• Attach self-attested photocopies of all documents with the printed application form
• Send the complete application through Speed Post to the designated ONGC office address mentioned on the form
• Track application status online using the acknowledgement number
