Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview
The Mukhyamantri Pichhda Varg Evam Atyant Pichhda Varg Praveshikottar Chhatravriti Yojana is a scholarship scheme implemented by the Backward Class & Extremely Backward Class Welfare Department, Government of Bihar, to support students pursuing education after matriculation. Under this scheme, eligible students belonging to the Backward Class (BC) and Extremely Backward Class (EBC) communities who are enrolled in recognised educational institutions in Bihar can receive scholarship assistance ranging from ₹2,000 to ₹4,00,000, depending on their course and institution. The approved scholarship amount is transferred directly to the beneficiary's Aadhaar-linked bank account through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
The scheme aims to reduce the financial burden of higher education by assisting students with expenses such as tuition fees, admission fees, books, hostel charges, and other academic costs. By providing timely financial support, the Government seeks to encourage students from BC and EBC communities to continue their studies after Class 10 and complete higher secondary, diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate, technical, and professional courses without financial hardship.
To receive the scholarship, applicants must satisfy the eligibility conditions prescribed under the scheme. The annual family income from all sources should generally not exceed ₹3,00,000, and the applicant must be studying in an eligible course offered by a recognised institution in Bihar. The scheme also provides higher scholarship assistance for students admitted to notified premier institutions, along with maintenance allowance and reader allowance for eligible visually impaired students as per the official guidelines.
Applications are invited through the PMS Online Bihar Portal, where students can complete the online registration and upload the required documents. After verification by the concerned authorities and approval of the application, the scholarship amount is released directly to the beneficiary's bank account through DBT, ensuring a transparent and efficient payment process.
