Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview
The Uttar Pradesh Government has approved the Rani Laxmi Bai Scooty Yojana to support meritorious girl students pursuing higher education in the state. The scheme received Cabinet approval on 21 July 2026, following its announcement in the Uttar Pradesh Budget 2026-27 by Finance Minister Shri Suresh Khanna. Under the Uttar Pradesh Free Scooty Scheme 2026, nearly 50,000 eligible meritorious girl students who graduated during the Academic Session 2025-26 from universities and degree colleges across Uttar Pradesh will receive a free petrol-operated scooty. For the implementation of the scheme, the Uttar Pradesh Government has allocated a budget of around ₹400 crore.
Through this initiative, the Government will provide a free scooty to eligible beneficiaries. In addition, it will bear the registration cost and provide insurance coverage, a helmet, and a one-time supply of five litres of petrol. The Uttar Pradesh Free Scooty scheme aims to strengthen women's empowerment, increase female participation in higher education, and provide safe, convenient, and independent transportation facilities to deserving girl students.
The benefit of the Uttar Pradesh Free Scooty Scheme will be provided to the top 5% meritorious girl students who completed graduation during the Academic Session 2025-26 from eligible higher educational institutions in Uttar Pradesh. The Uttar Pradesh Government has also announced that daughters of martyrs, Nirashrit (destitute) girl students, and Divyang girl students will receive the benefit without the merit condition. Uttar Pradesh Higher Education Department will act as the nodal department for implementing the Rani Laxmi Bai Scooty Yojana in the state.
