Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

Financial Assistance to Meritorious Scheduled Tribe Students is a Rajasthan Government scheme that rewards tribal students who pass their Board and university examinations in first division. The Commissionerate, College Education Department, Rajasthan, Jaipur, has run the scheme since the financial year 2023-24, and the Rajasthan Government bears 100% of its cost. The scheme recognises academic achievement among Scheduled Tribe students and encourages them to pursue higher education with dedication. It also aims to promote educational advancement among tribal communities by rewarding students for their academic performance.

The state launched the scheme to keep talented tribal students in higher education and push them towards better results. Its objective is to motivate meritorious tribal students of Rajasthan who take admission in colleges as regular students to pass their examinations in first division. In simple words, the scheme turns good marks into a cash reward, so a student who performs well in one year gets support for the next year as well.

Under the Financial Assistance to Meritorious Scheduled Tribe Students, an eligible student receives an incentive of ₹350 per month for ten months, which comes to a maximum of ₹3,500 in a year. The department pays the full amount in one lump sum. To qualify, the student must belong to the Scheduled Tribe category, hold Rajasthan domicile, pass Class 12 in first division with at least 60% marks, and study general education as a regular student in a government college. The parents, guardian, or husband must not pay income tax, and students living in government hostels cannot claim this benefit.

The scheme works on a year-by-year performance basis. A student must score at least 48% in the first-year examination to receive the incentive in the second year, and again at least 48% in the second-year examination to receive it in the third year. The same conditions apply during postgraduate studies. The student applies online on the SSO portal, the college verifies the form, the nodal college sanctions it, and the treasury transfers the money directly into the bank account linked with the student's Jan Aadhaar.

Along with Financial Assistance to Meritorious ST Students, the College Education Department, Rajasthan, also runs two related schemes for Sahariya tribal students: Economic Help to Sahariya Tribal Students for Higher Education (College Level), which provides financial support to eligible Sahariya students pursuing regular college courses, and Economic Help to Sahariya Students for B.Ed Training, which offers assistance for those undergoing B.Ed. training. Interested students can explore the complete official details of both schemes here.
